About Private Lessons
CORE Vocal Power is an individualized journey that will allow me to assess exactly where you are now, and fill in the gray areas, give you answers, clarity, self-awareness, an individualized vocal plan and yes, as a result, empowerment! If you are open to it, you will receive so much more than a great voice.
Through my C.O.R.E. formula (a 4 step acronym that will ensure you the mental, emotional and physical stability your voice needs), you will receive tools that will assist you in all aspects of performance. You will sing better, speak better and have more clarity and confidence in your life.
CORE Vocal Power® is vocal training that centers around you: your vocal goals, background, learning style, and ever-evolving talent!
Because I care about you, I want to hear about your journey and how you feel I can help you. If you're ready to empower your voice, click the button below to apply for a complementary phone consult.

AS A RESULT OF THIS APPLIED TRAINING:
- You will become more aware of your capabilities and how to overcome your personal limitations
- You will learn how to rewire your nervous system to sing or speak better
- You will become more in alignment with who you really are
What’s important to remember is that none of these things can happen unless you feel comfortable in your instrument. In other words, no matter how coordinated and capable your vocal cords are, you cannot show true confidence and power without the inner CORE part, or some form of inner-personal development.
For many, this is the most important aspect of singing that most coaches don’t address, which is always connected to the root of your problem. You may even feel wrong, incapable, and frustrated, all because in the past, you were told you were wrong for singing a certain way, but were never given the answers of how to unlock your innate ability to sing, or fix the issues at hand. Sadly, as a result, many talented people–even teachers exercise self hatred when they perceive their voice is failing them, and they never find true success and fulfillment in their voice.
Oftentimes these people go on to continue the cycle of abuse and self-resentment because of a simple misunderstanding.
How do you find your CORE voice?
It’s taken me many years as a pro singer and certified teacher, to figure out that to sing with my "true voice" or "CORE Voice" means understanding how my unique nervous system is wired, alongside the science of what makes my physical voice work properly and how to correct vocal issues.
For example, if you are singing a song and your voice likes to go off pitch every time you hit an E5, most coaches would assume it’s because of lack of proper breath support, imbalanced vocal cords, incorrect placement, or singing in the wrong register. This might be true for many people. However, what usually gets overlooked is that there likely is also a core underlying mental/emotional cause that has to do with your beliefs and experience that is causing the problem. Perhaps you are afraid of hitting high notes because someone told you that you sound bad singing high. Or maybe your voice cracked when you were nine years old and embarrassed you, so now you lack confidence on higher notes and your throat feels tight.
If this is the case, your vocal problem won’t go away until you regain command of your nervous system in such a way that this new foundation allows you to release the issue.

More Frequently Asked Questions
How is this lesson individualized?
I do not shape my students into a pre-set mold that says, ‘this is how you ought to sing,” and then force them into a specific genre or style. You are a unique individual, and you will be given the tools that you need to learn in order to reach your highest potential. As soon as you open your mouth to sing or speak, no matter what your vocal challenge is, I experience your voice in it’s wholeness – even if it doesn’t sound that way in that moment (but it did in your car. LOL). I then identify what you need to do to develop it, and make your vocal successes consistent. That means I am addressing your specific vocal needs and giving you best tools I know to look after you as a whole person, not just a floating voice that you think needs to be fixed.
Lessons are different for everybody because everybody is different! Physical vocal technique is only scratching the surface to a powerful, confident, voice.
Before your first lesson, you also have an opportunity to fill out a questionnaire which helps me to get to know you better, and many clients have told me this questionnaire has helped them know their voice better as well!
During your first lesson, while I evaluate your vocal technique, I also tune in to your energy as I take you on a journey with me through the levels of your voice, and how you use your nervous system alongside it. I will consider your goals and explore your voice with a thorough Vocal Assessment. I will then use this information to create an Individualized Vocal Plan to suit your vocal needs. I keep immaculate records of every private lesson on file, and will allow you to see your vocal progress in writing and listen to it again, as all lessons are emailed as an .mp3 to you for free. I can also record private sessions on video upon request!
Is this like "therapy" for your voice?
While the approach can have therapeutic effects (since we are not overlooking the emotional part of your instrument), it doesn’t have to be a long, drawn out process, and no, I’m not a therapist. But I’ve been called one because I do see you without bias and will help you delve into your CORE to feel and shift your blocks which might be holding you back vocally. Usually we’re able to shift a lot in one lesson, depending on how open, willing and courageous you feel to let go, and how committed you are to applying the empowering, new habits I will give you on a daily basis.
Then you get the benefits of becoming technically sound in a natural way, without having to micromanage yourself becoming mechanical while you sing.
I am already a pro. How can I benefit?
If you’ve already developed yourself to a professional level, we just strengthen the weaker areas and move forward, geared toward your needs and goals. Perhaps you are wanting to audition for a show or prepare for a concert, and just need to brush up on your performance or auditioning skills. Maybe you are already a successful singer, but you know there is more to learn and you want to grow and expand.
In your lesson, you’ll learn about what is working for you, what to let go of, and what important new habits to apply in order to become more powerful than you could have ever imagined.
Does Dot work with beginners?
Yes. Dot enjoys working with all levels from beginner to pro’s. It’s not about how experienced you are. It’s about how willing you are to allow yourself the opportunity to expand your voice into all that it can be.
How often should I take lessons?
It depends on what you need, if you have deadlines, your budget, and what level you are at. However, if you are not doing a CORE Vocal Power intensive with Dot, weekly lessons are recommended to start.
Once you get the fundamental tools under your belt and your nervous system working how you want it, Dot encourages you to stretch out the time between your lessons.
How do I know if Dot can help me?
Dot has been teaching voice for over 20 years and has helped all ages from the deaf to celebrities empower their voice.
